SHINYANGA’S phantom workers figure has climbed to 226 as investigation deepens. President John Magufuli said so far the number of phantom workers continued to climb up after fresh investigation was called in.
“Our investigations have revealed more ghost workers since we were told none existed,” Dr Magufuli said when he inaugurated Kigamboni bridge today.
The president made the announcement amid cheers from the multitude showed up to witness the spectacular opening of the East Africa longest cable-stay bridge. Fortnight ago, President Magufuli fired Shinyanga RC Anne Kilango-Malecela after producing a false-report showing the region has no phantom workers.
However, a spot investigation after the report was filed showed that the region had 45 ghost workers. The number has now climbed to 226.
The RC only served less than a month since she was appointed and sworn-in and was fired alongside Regional Administrative Secretary (RAS), Abdul Dachi, for apparently misleading the RC into believing that all workers were genuine.
