Azam FC travel to avoid sabotage

AZAM FC have been forced to send their players to Tunisia in three separate groups to trick possible sabotage, it was revealed yesterday.

The Chamazi-based side play hosts Esperance in the Confederation Cup second round, return leg match in Tunis on April 19.
The team’s director Saad Kawembwa said yesterday in Dar es Salaam that they had decided to take the team in three groups to Tunisia to confuse the home side.
“This is our new trick. The whole team cannot go together. Doing this may confuse them,” Kawembwa said, noting that the first batch left yesterday with a 17-man contingent.
He said the team which left comprised players, technical bench members and officials of the team.
He said the second and third groups leave today and tomorrow whereby apart from players, the groups will conclude members of the press and an official of the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF).
The team trained by Stewart Hall need any draw to advance to the next stage of the second continental club competition, the senior tourney being the African Champions League.
Azam FC came from behind to beat the former African Champions 2-1 in the first leg match played at the Chamazi Complex last Sunday.
Meanwhile, Tanzania envoys Yanga will leave for Cairo tomorrow for their African Champions League second round return leg match against Al Ahly.
The teams which drew in the first leg 1-1 meet in the return leg match on Wednesday. Yanga need a 2-2 draw or a 1-0 win to advance, while a barren draw will send Yanga packing due to an away goal advantage for the home side.
